Ranji Mangcu
Black Xhosa photographer and visual artist
Ranji Mangcu is a South African Xhosa woman based in Johanesburg whose work focuses on dismantling the structures and spaces that historically erased and violently represented Black womanhood and expression. She uses photography to explore the politics of Black womanhood (and dark skin) representation within art history through portraiture and fashion photography. Her work is what she carries from home too; Mangcu has four sisters, Black women who are creatives, whose minds and ways of thinking contribute to her own artistic voice. Iqhina, An Ode to my Family 2020 is a photobook that narrates stories of knowledge within Blackness.
Mangcu is a Michaelis School of Fine Art BA Fine Art Graduate.
