Gordon’s Mashup Masters Season 2 continues to surprise with an unusual pairing in Lordkez and Goldmax’s collaboration in Episode 3.
They join previously announced pairs of Kane Keid and Ndabo Zulu, Lowfeye and Zawadi Yamungu, with Gordon’s Mashup Masters season 2 continuing to experiment with the idea of mashups by bringing together two artists with contrasting approaches and letting them experiment, rather than focusing on the music itself.
For Lordkez and Goldmax, the collaboration was less about forging a common sound and more about finding the space in which the two could intersect

“I think working with Goldmax challenged me to think differently,” says Lordkez.
“When you have two different minds coming together, you have to listen to each other and adapt to each other’s styles. It was an interesting experience for me because I got to see how my sound could mesh with his, and I think we were both surprised with the results.”

Similarly, Goldmax notes the value in the experimental nature of the collaboration.
“We both had different vibes, which made it exciting to see if those vibes would mesh together. Instead of having to change one of the vibes to accommodate the other, we were able to find a way to make the two fit together.”

It was a matter of testing, of listening to the other and taking inspiration from them.
That back-and-forth is the stuff of Gordon’s Mashup Masters Season 2, which features 10 South African artists in five mashup collaborations, with each pairing serving as an opportunity for the artists to stretch beyond their comfort zones and experiment.
Viewers get to see the process, and the increased production values of Gordon’s Mashup Masters Season 2 allow for that, while Gordon’s has also added another layer to the mashup fun with a bespoke cocktail for each of the five collaborations, with the mixology inspired by the pairing of artists and the sound of the collaboration.

Beyond the drinks, Gordon’s Mashup Masters Season 2 continues to be about collisions of all kinds, and with two more collaborations to come, there’s no telling what else is in store for this season. Gordon’s Mashup Masters Season 2 Episode 3: Lordkez x Goldmax provides insight into how this particular mashup was conceived and executed, with Lordkez and Goldmax noting the importance of the collaboration in their respective journeys.
“The challenge of working with someone else who has a completely different vibe, and who you have to adapt to, is always exciting,” shares Goldmax.

Lordkez echoes that point, noting that collaborating with Goldmax gave her the opportunity to think differently about her sound. “It was an interesting experience for me because I got to see how my sound could mesh with his, and I think we were both surprised with the results,”
