Through a deeply personal and intimate lens, ‘Notes on Khulu’ emphasises an intimate and sentimental look into the legendary icon, Archbishop Desmond Tutu’s life and legacy.

Curated by his granddaughter, Nyaniso Tutu-Burris, and emerging curator Bronwyn Davis, this exhibition marks the debut showcase of Art & Industry gallery, celebrating not only a revered leader but a love-filled tribute to a devoted family man.

Art & Industry is a Cape Town-based foundation and gallery exploring intersections between art, design, and social innovation through exhibitions, residencies, and public programs.
The foundation nurtures dialogue between creative disciplines and the communities they serve.

The exhibition weaves together images of intimacy, devotion, and humour, revealing a man defined as much by his faith and laughter as by his fight for justice. Behind the lens are the masterful long-time documentarians, Sumaya Hisham, and anti-apartheid activist and prolific photojournalist, Benny Gool. Featured photographers such as Haneem Christian, whose contemporary work explores queer love, intimacy, and visibility within the Coloured community, and Baha Suleiman, who captures the resilience of Palestinian refugees while interrogating the complex nature of freedom, add to this beautiful mosaic of artwork. Together, these voices echo the Archbishop’s lifelong commitment to love, dignity, and justice for all.

The exhibition opened with an intimate private viewing for family and close friends on 11
October, accompanied by wine sponsored by Nice Beverage Company and Three
Quarters Wine, a label by Mahalia Kotjane.

All works on display are available for purchase. The exhibition will remain open to the public
until mid-November 2025 at Art & Industry, Cape Town.
