There’s something sacred about art — the way it reaches beyond words to express what we
can’t always say. For me, music has always been that purest form of expression, the heartbeat
of who we are.
When I think about the power of music, I’m reminded of the legends who came before us — Fela Kuti, Hugh Masekela, Letta Mbulu, and Oliver Mtukudzi. They aren’t just entertainers; they are messengers. Their songs carried the spirit of transformation, the stories of struggle and joy that shaped generations. During our hardest times, we turned to music to console ourselves. In our brightest moments, we used it to celebrate.
That same spirit lives on today. I’ve been attending different kinds of events lately, from jazz to alternative to rap, and each space carries its own energy, its own rhythm; but one night stood out in particular: Sonic Spectrum, an event hosted by a creative friend of mine Hlumelo Slatsha.
It wasn’t just another show. It was an experience; a fusion of genres, styles, and souls that
reminded me why I fell in love with music in the first place. Watching each artist pour their heart
into performance, I felt something shift within me. The room vibrated with truth, with authenticity. It was the kind of night that makes you remember why creativity matters.
When I got home, still high on that wave of inspiration, I reached out to one of the artists who
had performed. I sent a message straight from the heart:
“Yow fam, I recently started listening to your music Man, I must say thank you for delivering
authentic music — I fux with this sound fr my G. I feel like you’ve found your voice, SPEAK
your TRUTH my SOUL.
This is the essence of expression and it’s so relatable. It’s organic and will be timeless, fam. Big
up King, and I appreciate you putting your heart and soul into your craft because that shit
means a lot to people who really appreciate this thing.

That message was more than a ‘thank you’. It was a reflection of how deeply music moves me
and how it connects people through feeling and honesty. Because that’s what art does: it
bridges souls.
Music is a universal language, one that speaks across borders, backgrounds, and generations.
Every time I listen, I learn something new. I grow. I take what I hear, filter it through my own
understanding, and let it shape how I see the world. Sometimes it feels like stepping into another dimension; like tapping into something cosmic where sound becomes spirit. In those moments, I remember: being an artist isn’t just what I do; it’s who I am.
I genuinely love this life. The music, the energy, the connection — it’s all part of my purpose.
Maybe, in my own poetic way, I’m just learning to love and appreciate life while finding myself
through the rhythm of creation.
