Orms and Canon have once again joined forces to spotlight South Africa’s photographic brilliance with the return of their celebrated outdoor showcase: Chasing Contrast.
Now in its sixth edition, this national competition invites both emerging and established photographers to submit their most compelling Black & White images, each one a study in light, texture, and emotion. With the Sea Point Promenade as its canvas, the exhibition transforms everyday scenes into powerful visual narratives, offering 20 selected photographers the chance to have their work displayed for a full year and win Canon prizes worth R100,000.

Rooted in a deep commitment to creative accessibility, Orms continues to champion local talent by bringing photography into public spaces. “This is a chance for our community to really push themselves as they try to find the magic in the everyday,” says Orms Marketing Manager Alex Ressel. Canon’s Product Manager Roger Machin echoes this sentiment, celebrating the collaboration’s six-year legacy of elevating South African voices through visual storytelling. This year’s theme, Chasing Contrast, asks photographers to strip away colour and distraction, revealing the raw beauty of South Africa’s cities, heritage, and landscapes.

Entries are open to South African residents until 9 October, with participants allowed to submit up to five images per entry, as many times as they like. Whether it’s the quiet dignity of a street scene or the grandeur of a windswept coast, Chasing Contrast is a call to see the world anew, and to make the visual exploration of daily life unforgettable.
