African artists are not only stepping into the spotlight, they’re reshaping it entirely.
With bold visions, lived experiences, and voices that refuse to be silenced, these visionaries are challenging conventions and transforming the cultural landscape. Returning on Friday, 5 September to 7 September 2025, Africa’s leading & longest-running contemporary art fair will continue to platform multicultural and interdisciplinary voices and perspectives.

The last fifteen years of the FNB Art Prize tell a revolutionary story. Portia Zvavahera’s surreal canvases, Peju Alatise’s mythologies of girlhood, Bronwyn Katz’s bold navigation of memory and land, and Lady Skollie’s unbound provocations have each pushed the boundaries of contemporary African art. Undoubtedly, they have also championed African art’s next chapter.
Looking ahead, African art will be defined by those willing to experiment, disrupt, and dream fearlessly. Women are leading this surge, but they’re not alone. Their rise sits alongside peers of all genders who are expanding what creativity on the continent looks like. Together, they’re driving an art landscape that is more inclusive, globally relevant, and deeply rooted in African realities.
Across studios, galleries, and cultural institutions, women are proving one powerful truth: when women rise, art doesn’t just reflect change, it leads it. That truth will be on full display at the 18th edition of FNB Art Joburg, at the Sandton Convention Centre; a moment to experience, in real-time, how art leads change.
