Bambolwami (Bambo) Sibiya’s upcoming exhibition entitled “What Now” reflects his artistic journey over the last 6 years.

While his work is both political and critical, each piece exists within a moment in time. This petit retrospective starts with Bambo’s most famous portraiture from 2013, the work that ultimately won him the coveted Gerard Sekoto prize, at the ABSA L’Atelier Awards.

Thinkers of Solutions by Bambo Sibiya.

These pieces reveal his print making prowess. As his artistic journey moved forward, we look at pieces that now define his current period.
Rich, stylistic detail and textures mark this body of work. Through his obsession with identity, he uses objects and patterns to capture the emotional life of the character in the portrait.
Cherishing Voices by Bambo Sibiya.

Playing with the historical tradition of the still life genre, Sibiya’s figures are isolated in their reality and arranged by the artist, frozen in time while his high intensity colours fill the air with both expectation and energy from the world outside the frame.
They are both alone, and still, in a world that is both rapidly changing and is not responding quickly enough.  The viewer is asked to mediate on each character’s truth.

Another exhibition taking place at Riboville is the Summer Group Exhibition. It hosts a gentle array of artworks in varied formats by noteworthy local Contemporaries whom all produce and exhibit in the South African and International Arts Sectors.

Participating artists include Vivien Kohler; Sue Martin; Lee-at Meyerov; Dathini Mzayiya; Sifiso Mkhabela; Talia Goldsmith and Patrick Sewuru.
The exhibition attempts to introduce, celebrate and highlight a new accumulation of Contemporaries to the Midrand area as part of its ongoing curatorial focus and stimulation of Arts and Culture Programming to the Residents and Visitors of Riboville and Waterfall Estate.
The Summer Group Exhibition will be available to view until late January 2021 at Riboville, the Hotel is open to the public daily for viewing.
