Lethabo Huma is a young South African digital artist, who has taken the modern approach to making art as opposed to the traditional paint brush and canvas route. Huma has always had a creative bone and over the years her love for art has only intensified. Her work is a manifestation of her mental and responses to life experiences. Centred around her identity, the imaginative digital portraitures serve as a “visual diary that explores various aspects of the human experience. She uses digital art tools to create her work, transforming the memoirs of her life into vibrant, captivating pieces”.
“The principal theme in my work is expressive portraiture fused with constructed lines, stars, and soft background colours. I use my work as a mirror to portray various expressions of myself. My aim for creating is to invoke some kind of emotion through my work, for people to feel something,” she told Afropunk

What makes Huma’s work captivating is the selection of hues and soul present in her portraits that capture the essence, assortment and beauty of Black people. “Painting the stars in kinky coils, her work is a glorious expression of geometry and our human connectedness,” says Erin White. Her work has been recognised by some of the world’s most renowned art institutions, including Christie’s and Sotheby’s as well as features in publications that include Time Magazine, News24, and Destiny magazine.

She’s created art for campaigns such as the Create Connections for Vodafone, curated digital art galleries including one in collaboration with SuperRare and MoCDA, her work has been showcased during Milan Art Week just to name a few. Keep up with Lethabo Huma and her glorious work
