Siyabonga Nhleko popularly known by the pseudonym Jr Ecko is undeniably one of the best photographers of our prime and his work speaks into that. Over the past year or so, we have seen him turn album covers into more than just covers, but creative stories as well.
We look into his recent work with amapiano goddesses DBN Gogo and Nobantu Vilakazi who have collaborated together to drop a new track titled Bhuti featuring 2woshort, Visca, ShaunMusiq, and Ftears.
On the cover, Jr_Ecko turns his focus onto the townships of South Africa where Nobantu Vilakazi is depicted holding and breastfeeding a baby and DBN Gogo plays along as the ”gogo” who has to support the grandchild with many kids;.
Township life has been an important source of inspiration for most South African photographers since the early 1920s and continues to become that even today.
