Born in a small village in Mpumalanga, Dr. Mahlangu’s rise to fame is nothing short of amazing. One of the most exciting parts of this exhibition is the chance to see her famous BMW 525i Art Car. Painted in 1991, this car makes as a historical  moment in the arts, as it was the first time a piece by an African woman was included in the BMW Art Car Collection. After more than thirty years, it’s coming back to Gauteng, and this is a rare opportunity to see the automotive design.

The exhibition is more than just a display of art. It tells the story of Dr. Mahlangu’s journey and how she has influenced contemporary art today. Nontobeko Ntombela, the exhibition curator, said, “Dr. Mahlangu’s work shines a light on African art’s importance in the world. Her stories and style have captivated many, making her a leading figure in modern art.”
