G-STAR has teamed up with avant-garde designer Walter Van Beirendonck to bring a cool and edgy collection to SA. This collaboration features Cape Town rapper YoungstaCPT, who adds his style and energy to the campaign.
The collection, called “Denim with Balls,” was first shown at Paris Fashion Week. It breaks away from traditional denim design by using new techniques like gluing and taping instead of stitching. The 19-piece collection includes oversized shapes, fun embossed dots, and eye-catching slogans like “Future Proof” and “Stitch Less.” These elements clearly show Van Beirendonck’s style.

Van Beirendonck raises an interesting question: “Why are clothes still being stitched when we have the potential to look for so many other techniques?” His goal with this project is to challenge the usual rules of fashion and encourage creativity.
YoungstaCPT is the perfect choice to represent this collection. Known for his bars and fashion sense, he embodies the rebellious spirit that the collection aims for. G-STAR South Africa says, “YoungstaCPT represents everything this collection stands for — bold, disruptive, and unapologetically original.”

The campaign includes visuals shot by Paul Kooiker, showcasing Van Beirendonck in surreal, unfiltered images taken with an iPhone. In South Africa, photographer Shezan Waggie captures the essence of the collection on the streets of Cape Town, where YoungstaCPT blends hip-hop culture with high-fashion creativity.
