Mzansi Magic Bioskop is marking Women’s Day with the premiere of Nthabiseng, a locally produced drama that explores grief, healing and the quiet resilience of women who help families find their way through loss.

Premiering on Sunday, 9 August at 20:00 on Mzansi Magic Bioskop (DStv Channel 164), the film centres on Nthabiseng, a compassionate young woman whose arrival transforms a household struggling to rebuild after tragedy.

Played by Didi Makobane, Nthabiseng accepts a position working for widower Zamani, portrayed by Sparky Xulu, and his young daughter Mbali, played by Paballo Landu. Still mourning the loss of his wife, Zamani finds himself navigating single parenthood while an emotional distance grows between himself and his daughter.

As Nthabiseng gradually becomes part of the household, her patience, warmth and empathy begin to restore a sense of stability. What starts as a professional role slowly develops into something far more meaningful, helping both father and daughter confront their grief while opening the door to healing and unexpected love.

Adding another layer to the family dynamic is veteran actress Lillian Dube, who plays Mme Moholo, the family’s traditional matriarch whose firm sense of discipline and structure anchors the home during its most difficult moments.

Produced by Calltime Studios, Nthabiseng arrives during Women’s Month with a story that celebrates emotional labour, compassion and the often unseen ways women become the foundation of families and communities.

Producer Tebogo Tebxa Mabaso says the creative team wanted to tell a story that feels authentic to South African audiences while highlighting the universal nature of healing and human connection.

“We wanted audiences to recognise themselves in these characters, their struggles and their triumphs. Nthabiseng is ultimately a celebration of resilience, family and the quiet acts of kindness that have the power to change lives. We are proud to bring this story to audiences and hope it sparks conversations about love, healing and the value of human connection.”

The supporting cast includes Kamo Modisakeng as Tessa and Dumisani Dlamini as The Taxi Driver, further strengthening a production that places everyday South African experiences at the heart of its storytelling.

While romance forms part of the narrative, Nthabiseng is ultimately less about finding love than it is about rediscovering hope after loss. Through intimate family relationships and emotionally grounded performances, the film explores how healing often begins with the smallest acts of care.

As local productions continue to earn space on South African screens, Nthabiseng stands as another example of the power of homegrown storytelling, offering audiences a deeply human story that honours resilience while celebrating the women who quietly hold families together.

Nthabiseng premieres on Sunday, 9 August 2026 at 20:00 on Mzansi Magic Bioskop (DStv Channel 164).
