In the world of art, there are those who create masterpieces that not only captivate our senses but also tell stories that resonate with our souls. Andiswa Bhungane is one such artist, whose work seamlessly blends indulgence, storytelling and a celebration of life’s simple pleasures. Born into a family of creatives and nurtured by their support, Andiswa’s path has been nothing short of remarkable.

Andiswa’s love for art was kindled at an early age, growing up in KZN. With a mother who was a dressmaker and pastry chef and a sister who excelled in event planning and restaurant management, creativity flowed through her veins.

Encouraged by her family, she began experimenting with various materials, including resin, plaster, oil paint, acrylic and gold. This diverse range of mediums allowed her to express herself in ways that were both visually stunning and emotionally powerful.

Embarking on her art journey just two years ago, Andiswa wasted no time in making her mark. Her first two collections, “Tempt the fates once more” and “Darling, might we dance?”, wee inspired by the joy of dancing and the euphoric pleasures of life.

Through her art, she sought to capture the essence of being “out of oneself” and experiencing a sense of power and beauty. Drawing inspiration from Agnes De Mille’s quote, “To dance is to be out of yourself, larger, more beautiful, more powerful”, Andiswa’s pieces exude an energy that is both captivating and empowering

One of Andiswa’s notable achievements was her inclusion in the Jaguar-supported group show, “Give Her A Crown.” In this exhibition, she skillfully fused her indulgent style with storytelling, shedding light on her personal journey through a family history marked by moments of violence. Through her art, she courageously navigates this complex narrative, inviting viewers to reflect on their own experiences and emotions.
