A soulful jam session with the Afro-House duo
This Thursday South Africa receives a pleasant surprise as Black Motion confirms that they are the latest artists to perform on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert. Joining a few other South African artist who featured on the platform. The prolific house duo record their Tiny Desk Concert at the former residence of our late Nelson Mandela. The set is nothing short of an exquisite blend of house music with lively indigenous percussion and multilingual vocals.

The potency of this set is deeply imbedded in the culture and history of South Africa. Several vocalists and musicians make an appearance during the concert. Msaki being one of the vocalist, makes her third feature on NPR Home Concert series after earlier credits with Blackcoffee and the Coming to America special. Her soulful vocals serenade us on ‘Marry Me’, a jam from Black Motions 2020 album, The Healers: The last Chapter. Brenden Praise joins the duo on “Joy Joy”, soothing us with his smooth vocals and earthy sound. While Nolwazi livens the room up on “Imali”, with her powerful vocals and groove giving us a rendition of a South African war cry. The performance comes to an end as Tabia closes the set with a formidable croon of “Prayer for Rain.”
