Sustainability is key, always
Sustainability is defined as the ‘avoidance of the depletion of natural resources in order to maintain an ecological balance’. It is the tool to ensure that environmental waste is avoided at all costs. It is trying to not take everything that Mother Nature gives and use it irresponsibly.
What is sustainable fashion?
Sustainable fashion is a movement that uses fashion to attain sustainability. In doing so, it creates garments that are not made in a wasteful manner or have used materials that could harm the environment. Sustainable fashion considers the environment before anything else.
It uses minimal water consumption in both creation and washing of garments, minimal energy emissions and chemical and harmless disposal to attain sustainability. It is important to not harm animals too in the creation process of garments.
Crochet Fashion/Style and Sustainability
Fashion plays a major role in the environment. We think crochet fashion is a great tool to attain sustainability. And since it was one of the trendiest styles of 2020, it means that we are one step closer to protecting (and saving) Mother Nature.
Crochet garments are created from the most sustainable yarn materials: wool, organic cotton and silk. The process of creation does not use harmful chemicals, abuse animals or waste natural resources. It is handmade and thus perfect in the avoidance of the ‘depletion of natural resources’.
If you want to be a part of sustainable fashion, wear crochet swimwear, tops and carry crochet bags on your shoulder! Be a part of the movement and support fashion that protects and saves.
To help you, we have put together a short list of South African women who are creating sustainable fashion garments using their yarn and hands. Feel free to reach out to these brands if you would like to find out more about their sustainable fashion.
