Cars.co.za, South Africa’s leading online automotive platform recently announced the launch of its latest billboard campaign called “Driven By Humour.” This campaign is said to turn everyday commutes into chuckle-worthy, light-hearted moments, as motorists work out the witty car puns showcasing the brand’s unique blend of innovation, community engagement, and humour.
Turning Heads and Sparking Laughter
The “Driven By Humour” campaign is more than just an advertising initiative; it’s a celebration of creativity and community spirit, and our unique South African sense of humour. With over 20 billboards strategically placed across high-traffic areas in Johannesburg and Pretoria, and soon expanding to Cape Town, Cars.co.za is bringing smiles to drivers and pedestrians alike. These billboards feature hilarious, car-themed puns submitted by fans, each credited with their social media handle, making Cars.co.za’s fans a core part of the campaign.
A Two-Phased Approach to Fun
The campaign kicked off at the end of 2023 with 43 witty and cheeky lines crafted by the in-house Cars.co.za team spread over 97 different billboards, it set the stage for a light-hearted and refreshing advertising campaign. Building on this momentum, the second phase invited the community to join in the fun by submitting their own car-related puns. From “Walker, Texas Ranger” parked next to a Ford Ranger, to an Opel Corsa making a play on “isiXhosa,” these brilliant puns have turned daily drives into a delightful scavenger hunt.
Why “Driven By Humour”?
“Why are we doing this? Simple. We want to enhance brand awareness by engaging audiences with creative, community-driven content,” said Andrew Crawford, the champion behind the campaign. “We’re making Cars.co.za a memorable part of daily life, not just another brand. Less hard-sell, more personality and humour. More of what makes us, us, as South Africans, and as Cars.co.za”
