Proudly introduced by the Proud Mary Team, the newly opened restaurant and bar MAMASAMBA is creative property worth visiting
Late last year Colada House (Proud Mary team – restauranteurs, Gaz Hollywood and Jo Dos Passos), introduced a new restaurant and bar, MAMASAMBA, bringing Joburg residents a “twist on Latin American flavours and festivities”. MAMASAMBA is located at The Zone Rosebank shopping centre, neighbouring the much talked about department store EGG.
The captivating interior of MAMASAMBA being “Instagramable” is amongst the reasons why everyone keeps going to share their documented experiences on social media. The interior of the double-story restaurant and bar was designed by South Africa’s leading interior architect Tristan du Plessis of Studio A. Everything about the interior is cohesive from the minute you enter the door to their restrooms, no detail was left out.
On the ground floor is the kitchen, looking at the “carnival in the jungle” design space, MAMASAMBA guests are sure to enjoy fascinating view of their live-fire kitchen of their chefs prepare Nikkei-inspired sushi dishes. Take note of the bright graffitied florals and trees incorporated on all ends of the space, designed by artists David Brits. On your way to the second floor through a spiral staircase designed by the 2022 Nando’s Hot Young Designers winners, Kalki Ceramics , at the destination is a cocktail bar and lounge. Described Hollywood as “trouble in paradise”, the focal point of the area is a “larger-than-life gorilla sculpture around which the bar is built, arm in the air as if supporting the ceiling above it” .
