A Homeless Home
Toni Rothbart and Carlo Gibson met earlier this year to create a revolutionary design piece in order to give back to their community. The duo developed a nifty jacket of lightweight material into a unique item using bedding. Strategically designed to be easy to use where the wearer can keep it as a jacket for the day and zip themselves into it as a sleeping bag at night. The jackets have been manufactured to withstand harsh weather conditions and provide comfort for those without a home.
The “Homeless Home” project was in collaboration with Klipa Denim and the University of Johannesburg Fine Arts Honours students. The great minds in this team have designed and thoroughly researched what it takes to produce an eco-friendly garment whilst positively impacting the lives of those in need. They have gone through the essential process of testing prototypes. With the help of extensive interviews focused on end-user experience and feedback. The Jackets have been refined and manufactured to be the best suited to the final user. The lightweight and weatherproof fabrics will ensure that its wearer will be comfortable and protected as they go to sleep.
