For aspiring creatives looking to gain practical industry experience, Fybre Studios has opened applications for a part-time Intern/Studio Assistant to join its Johannesburg-based tufting studio for the remainder of 2026.
The five-month internship offers an opportunity to work inside an established creative business, giving one successful applicant hands-on experience across studio operations, textile production, workshop facilitation and digital content creation.

Based in Greenside, the role is aimed at individuals who thrive in collaborative creative environments, take initiative and enjoy learning by doing.
A Role That Goes Beyond Administrative Work
Rather than limiting interns to observation, Fybre Studios is offering an opportunity to become actively involved in the day-to-day running of the business.
The successful candidate will support daily studio operations through cleaning, organising and merchandising, while also assisting with product creation and rug finishing. They’ll help facilitate tufting classes and workshops, represent the studio at events and markets, and contribute to off-site activations throughout the internship.
It’s a role designed to expose emerging creatives to the many moving parts involved in operating a successful independent design studio.

Build Creative and Digital Skills
Alongside practical studio experience, the internship also offers opportunities to develop digital marketing and content creation skills.
The intern will assist with capturing content for Fybre Studios’ social media platforms and help create and edit posts using tools such as Canva and TikTok.
As more creative businesses blend craftsmanship with digital storytelling, the role provides valuable experience across both physical making and online brand building.
Who Should Apply?
Fybre Studios is looking for someone who is proactive, reliable and eager to contribute.
Ideal applicants should:
- Take initiative and recognise where support is needed.
- Enjoy working efficiently in a fast-paced creative environment.
- Have experience within the creative industry or be actively pursuing personal creative projects.
- Be confident communicators.
- Present themselves professionally and demonstrate reliability.

While not essential, applicants who live in or around Randburg, have reliable transport, possess experience in video editing or content creation, maintain a flexible schedule, or have experience in textile arts will have an advantage.
Graduates are also encouraged to apply.
Internship Benefits
Beyond gaining industry experience, the successful intern will receive full training in tufting while working alongside an established creative team.
Additional benefits include:
- Free access to studio equipment outside working hours for personal creative projects.
- Hands-on experience within a working design studio.
- Opportunities to develop skills across workshops, events and content creation.
- The chance to become part of a collaborative creative environment.
- Potential for a permanent position after the internship.
For emerging creatives hoping to strengthen both their technical and professional skills, the internship offers meaningful exposure to multiple aspects of the creative industry.
How to Apply
Applicants should email a cover letter, a CV of no more than two pages, and, if available, a portfolio of no more than five pages to fybrestudios@gmail.com.
Applications with documents exceeding the specified page limits will not be considered. Fybre Studios has also confirmed that applications submitted via direct messages or social media comments will not be accepted.
The studio operates Wednesday to Sunday from 11:00 to 19:00, meaning applicants must be available to work weekends. Only candidates based in Johannesburg, South Africa, will be considered.
For creatives eager to expand their practical experience while working inside an active design studio, Fybre Studios’ latest internship presents an opportunity to build new skills, contribute to meaningful projects and take an important step into South Africa’s creative industry.
