McDonald’s has been at the forefront of culture for years. As a regular customer of McDonalds, graphic designer Sbongakonke Ndlovu shares how he innovatively redesigned the McDonald’s staff uniform. The young designer describes himself as someone who is not afraid to take on a challenge as he is constantly observing and evaluating the design of things around him. Ndlovu found inspiration for this project by being a regular customer at McDonald’s, one visit to the fast food restaurant was enough for him to critique the design styles in his environment.

What inspired this project?
Ndlovu shares that, “While I waited for my order the thought; what if I revamp their uniforms?” came across his mind. The designer uses inspiration from streetwear culture to not only design a uniform, but his designs are so fashion forward that it can make any young fashion lover wear these as McDonalds merch.

How would you describe the creative process in redesigning this uniform?
I preserved the company’s usual colours, typeface, and design because I didn’t want to drastically alter their current one. The majority of my idea stemmed from the fact that as we approach the warmest season, summer, it would be wonderful to have something comfy for the weather conditions.
