Who would’ve thought that one day the luxury italian brand known as Gucci would tap into the world of skating and millennials? Looking at their recent collaboration with the brand ‘The North Face’, it doesn’t come as a surprise that Gucci might be going through some serious marketing changes.
According to reports, Vans will be joining Gucci within its Gucci Vault’s new Gucci Continuum program — an online design portal where brands are tapped to create products with repurposed materials from Gucci’s archives, emphasizing the importance of creativity and environmental friendliness.
Although we haven’t really found a word to describe this collaboration, we have to admit that it is quite out of the ordinary and we can tell that some serious fashion experts sat down and decided on the look and feel.
We asked ourselves a question that comes top of the mind when we see ‘Gucci’ anywhere: How much are these Vans going to cost us since the brand has forever been known as an affordable alternative? A few kidneys, maybe?
According to FN, when a company like Gucci works hand in hand with an affordable fashion brand , the luxury house usually dictates the price (an example of this is the collection made with Balenciaga).
Particularly, in the case of Gucci, the collaborations carry the price that Italians are used to. However, with Vans , those in charge have made an exception.
In fact, sneakers and slip-ons are in a price range in which the house normally only sells small leather items – if any. In addition, in terms of material, both brands have given a pleasant surprise for tennis lovers .
Gucci x Vans opts for upcycling
Gucci x Vans bets on a colorful and creative mix of materials and colors. In this way, the Gucci Continuum capsule collection revives the beginnings of the American shoe manufacturer.
His first store opened in California in 1966 and was specifically geared towards skateboarders. “Back then, fans of the brand could transform their favorite fabric or beloved old garment into a custom pair of sneakers ,” recalls Gucci . This mix of nostalgia and sustainability has now served as the inspiration for the collaboration.
