Mahape’s artworks are a harmonious blend of human figures and natural forms, such as landscapes, trees, and pastures. Through these arrangements, he aims to depict the pure identities, expressions of humanity, and dignity carried by the people he portrays. Each piece tells a story, capturing the essence of African communities and shedding light on the intricacies of their experiences.
Interestingly, Mahape’s artistic journey took an unconventional path. Initially studying mechanical engineering, in line with his parents’ expectations, he discovered a hidden talent for sculpture-making. Drawing upon the skills he gained from his engineering studies, he began to explore different recycling techniques and materials in his art, including the use of beadwork.

Working predominantly with glass beads on fishline strings, Mahape’s beadwork is a meticulous process. He starts by cutting out a piece of wood and using nails to hang the strings, and then he meticulously places each bead, one by one. Each string is independent, but when all the strings are brought together, a full picture emerges. This technique, in itself, embodies the concept of unity. Each bead represents an individual, while the beads on the strings symbolize a collective group of people.
