A new mover and shaker in the local sneaker and shoe business has caught our attention. His name is Kabelo Selekolo and if you haven’t heard him by now, this is a perfect opportunity to tap into his creative life.
It is undeniable that sneakers play an important role in ensuring that our style makes perfect sense and that one looks good. Over the years, the sneaker and shoe business has played a very vital role in the culture, where millennials invest so much in them.
An entrepreneur named Kabelo Selekolo from a small village in North West called Molorwe who started as a multimedia designer and ventured into entrepreneurship is joining the sneaker and shoe business with a fresh new concept and brand.
Kabelo is a proud owner of ‘Mswenko’, a slang term roughly translated to ”drip” or ”steez” in the creative space.
Kabelo’s entrepreneurial journey started back when he was 10 years old.at a time where his aunt had a mini tuckshop that sell drinks and snacks. Fast-forward to when he was in Grade 9, they gave him a family camera to make money during a school trip, and the rest is history.
Many years later, the Tshwane University of Technology graduate goes back to his passion and uses multimedia skills to design the new Mswenko sneaker brand.
Speasking to IOL, Kabelo details how his goal was to create a design that was stylish and innovate, sourcing inspiration from founders of Loxion Kulca like Sechaba Mogale, Brian Abrahams and the late Mzwandile “Wandi” Nzimande, who had shown him the path to success for a local brand.
“As a multimedia designer with extensive graphic design experience, I found my skills extremely useful when researching and sketching for my project. My goal was to create a design that was stylish, comfortable and versatile enough to be worn with casual clothes and for sports.
“To bring my vision to life, I sketched the design and silhouette and enlisted the help of a professional shoe designer to create a 3D model. We then consulted with a manufacturer to turn my concept into a reality.”
