Friday has arrived with a particularly busy release slate, bringing together everything from genre-blurring pop and intimate singer-songwriter projects to deep house, Afro-house and rap. Across the latest releases, artists are leaning into new eras, revisiting familiar sounds and finding new ways to stretch the boundaries of what their music can hold.
Here are some of the releases landing on our radar this week.
Ravyn Lenae, Blue Island
Ravyn Lenae enters a new chapter with Blue Island, her third studio album and follow-up to 2024’s Bird’s Eye. Executive-produced by Grammy Award-winning producer Dahi, the album sees Lenae continue moving beyond the R&B foundations that first defined her sound.
The project arrives after the enormous success of “Love Me Not”, which turned Lenae into a global breakout star. Rather than allowing that success to dictate what comes next, Blue Island gives her room to experiment, drawing from influences that range from Janet Jackson and Santigold to Blondie, The Cranberries and Bollywood soundtracks.
The result is an album that moves through pop, soul, rock and electronic textures while keeping Lenae’s voice at its centre. With contributions from Justin Tranter, Diana Gordon, Andrew Aged and a feature from Doechii on “Babygirl”, Blue Island is a clear statement of artistic independence. Lenae has described the album as a point of arrival, giving herself permission to question what R&B and pop are supposed to sound like.

Dark Horse, Flora Ntlemo
South African house producer Dark Horse takes a quieter route with Flora Ntlemo, an album named after his late grandmother.
The project is rooted in remembrance, but it avoids becoming a straightforward memorial. Instead, Dark Horse translates the values associated with his grandmother, including love, faith and patience, into the music itself. The title track is particularly central to that idea, built around a soulful violin line that moves gently through his deep-house production.
Across the album, organic African percussion meets polished electronic production, with collaborators including C-Black, Soullab, Dav Risen and KG Sunset contributing to a sound that remains spacious and restrained. It follows a catalogue that includes Somnyama and collaborations such as “Love, Peace & Happiness” with Kabza De Small and Artwork Sounds, and “Just Believe” with Kelvin Momo.
Flora Ntlemo is an album that asks for a little patience from its listener. Its emotional weight sits inside the groove, revealing itself gradually rather than arriving with fanfare.
Elaine, Major League DJz, Atmos Blaq & Mpho.wav, “One More Dance”
Elaine reunites with Major League DJz on “One More Dance”, bringing her R&B sensibility into the world of Afro-electronic dance music.
Produced alongside Atmos Blaq and Mpho.wav, the track is built around shimmering synths, hypnotic rhythms and Elaine’s unmistakable vocals. Its subject is familiar to anyone who has ever wished a good night would last a little longer: the strange moment when you know the evening is ending, even though you’re not ready for it to.
The release also builds on Elaine’s growing relationship with dance music. She previously collaborated with Major League DJz and Yumbs on “All Night Long”, while her recent appearance on Skyla Tylaa’s “Vele Uyena” further demonstrated her willingness to move between genres.
With “One More Dance”, Elaine finds a natural meeting point between intimate R&B songwriting and the expansive pulse of contemporary African dance music.
DJ Zinhle, ZINHLE
DJ Zinhle is going back to the sound that helped establish her.
Her self-titled eight-track EP ZINHLE revisits the vibrant Afro-house energy that has been central to her career, while bringing together a new generation of collaborators including DJ Lace, DJ Cliad, Funk Tone, Thobani White, Msindo’Listo, Nayvee Womculo and Nia Pearl.
The focus track, “Uthando”, featuring Thobani White and Nayvee Womculo, sits at the heart of the project with warm rhythms, soaring melodies and an emphasis on connection. It follows the singles “Baba Yilwa” and “Njengemali”, which established the direction of the EP ahead of its release. “Baba Yilwa” has also made an impact on South African radio and streaming platforms.
For an artist who has spent almost two decades helping shape the country’s dance music culture, ZINHLE feels like a deliberate return to the dancefloor. The nostalgia is there, but so is the evidence of everything Zinhle has learned since first becoming a household name.
Cardi B, “AH HA”
Cardi B is opening another chapter with “AH HA”, her first new music following the release and success of her sophomore album AM I THE DRAMA?.
Produced by DJ SwanQo, the track arrives with considerable momentum behind it, after a teaser generated more than 81 million views across social media. It also follows Cardi’s sold-out 35-city Little Miss Drama Tour, which the release describes as the highest-grossing debut arena tour by a female rapper.
The new single arrives at a particularly busy point in Cardi’s career. She recently took home Best Female Hip Hop Artist at the 2026 BET Awards and has continued building on a catalogue that includes the diamond-certified “Bodak Yellow” and her Grammy-winning debut Invasion of Privacy.
“AH HA” signals the beginning of whatever comes next for Cardi, with the rapper once again stepping into a new era with plenty of attention already waiting.
Rachel Chinouriri, “One Song Away From Crying”
Rachel Chinouriri has announced her second album, I think I spoke too soon, while releasing its lead single, “One song away from crying”.
The shimmering synth-pop track captures the emotional limbo of a night out that has stopped feeling quite as fun as it looked from the outside. Chinouriri describes the song as being about that moment when you know you need to leave, while recognising that the discomfort underneath the night is connected to something much deeper.
That idea carries into the forthcoming album, which uses a single night out as the framework for exploring identity, self-worth, change and the different versions of ourselves that emerge during periods of transition. The record was written and recorded across London, Hereford and Los Angeles, with collaborators including Lucy Dacus, Eli Teplin, APOB, Mary Weitz and Glen Roberts.
The new album arrives October 16, while Chinouriri has also announced headline dates across the US, UK, Europe and Australia. She is set to perform at Olivia Rodrigo’s Daisy Chain Fields and join Gracie Abrams on her North American arena tour later this year.
Alyssa Grace, spilling my guts
At just 19, Alyssa Grace arrives with her debut EP spilling my guts, a seven-track collection that has already been preceded by a remarkable rise.
The Torrance, California singer-songwriter has amassed more than 4.5 million monthly Spotify listeners with only three previously released songs. Her latest single, “bloodstream”, became a viral breakout, earning two million streams on its first day and reaching the Billboard Hot 100.
The EP traces the emotional terrain surrounding love, heartbreak, self-doubt and growth. Tracks such as “dog with a bone” and “picking petals” established Grace’s knack for pairing acoustic songwriting with the directness of Gen-Z confessionals, while “bloodstream” brought the project into a much larger spotlight.
Opening with “bones”, the EP moves through the aftermath of a relationship before closing with “baby swim”, featuring Andrew Lucier. There is an intimacy to the project that feels deliberately at odds with the scale of Grace’s sudden online success.
For an artist who has gone from three songs to millions of listeners in a matter of months, spilling my guts is an early glimpse at what happens when a distinctly personal songwriting voice finds a very large audience.
