Through his photography Matsepane focuses on stories of love, spirituality, belief, life’s journey, consciousness and raw emotion.
Dabbling in photography, fashion design and visual arts is Limpopo-born photographer Thabo ‘Thabo Lens’ Matsepane.
Matsepane studied fashion and design at Sew Africa in 2016, the following year, he completed a short course at Nikon in Pretoria.
Matsepane went on to study photography at Orms in Cape Town, where he graduated in 2019.
Through his photography Matsepane focuses on stories of love, spirituality, belief, life’s journey, consciousness and raw emotion.
To add authenticity and stay true to telling African/ South African stories, he travels and connects with those he photographs through conversations because he believes he can only effectively tell stories through connecting with people.
Matsepane draws inspiration from artists and photographers that are not afraid to showcase their identity and individuals who address real issues that Africans face.
He is inspired by Es’kia Mphahelele who was a South African writer and activist, former president Thabo Mbeki who valued and worked towards social and economic progress and Jenny Altschuler who is a visual culture mentor, curator, lecturer and photographic artist.
The Joburg-based photographer has been making moves in South Africa’s creative industry, shooting at the hottest events and having his name attached to photographs of some of the country’s A-listers.
