The first-ever Hout Bay Llandudno Art Fair is set to take place from January 31 to February 2, 2025. This event will be held at the Ghuba Gallery on Victoria Avenue, close to the Suikerbossie Restaurant. With over 100 artists submitting their work, the fair promises to showcase a mix of creativity from the local community.

Three leaders are behind this event: Sam Whittaker, who studied curating at Sotheby’s in London; Georgina Vintin, a ceramist and teacher; and Bianca Said, the founder of Social Studio SA. Together, they are working towards shedding a light on the artistic talents of Hout Bay and Llandudno, to bring forward their cultural status to match other famous areas in Cape Town.

“We’re creating more than just an art fair,” says Whittaker. “This is about building a platform that celebrates our community’s artistic talent and makes a positive impact on youth education through our partnership with Lalela.”

The fair will feature a carefully chosen selection of 60 to 70 artists, showcasing a variety of art forms including paintings, sculptures, ceramics, photography, and mixed media. Among the featured artists are Carol Lebe, whose work “Mothers of the Digital Womb” looks at the role of African women in the digital world, and Grace Cross, who paints vibrant scenes celebrating motherhood from different cultural perspectives.

The workshops, limited to just 6 participants each, offer a chance to learn directly from artists. Options include “Exploring the Fluidity of Watercolours” with Candice, a hands-on silk scarf crafting session with Grace Cross, and “Vibrant Landscapes” led by Marc Tondari. Each workshop will be aiding with personal learning experience.
