The first season of “Shaka iLembe” was a huge hit! Those that watched loved the story and the cast. It even won 12 awards at the 2024 South African Film and Television Awards (Saftas), showing just how popular it became. This show changed the game for local TV, telling historical stories in newways.
But not everything was smooth behind the scenes. In May, the South African Guild of Actors (SAGA) started looking into complaints from extras who worked on the second season. Many of them traveled from KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga to Johannesburg at their own cost to be part of the show. SAGA chairman Jack Devnarain mentioned that over 100 people were involved in this situation.

Despite these challenges, the production team worked hard to create a fantastic new season that fans will love. So, what can we expect from Season 2? The team promises that it will look deeper into the world of Shaka.
Nomsa Philiso, the CEO of general entertainment at MultiChoice, said, “Season 2 is a journey into the very soul of Shaka’s world.” She explained that viewers will see Shaka as a king, a strategist, and a visionary as he builds his empire.
There will also be new characters joining the story. Desiree Markgraaff, an executive producer of “Shaka iLembe,” shared that these new cast members bring a lot of talent and energy. They will unlock themes of power, love, and loyalty during a time of great change.

Fans can look forward to more drama, action, and suspense as the characters face new challenges. Some familiar faces will return, including Wiseman Mncube as Zwide, Dawn Thandeka King as the strong Mkabayi, Khabonina Qubeka as the ambitious Ntombazi, and Mondli Makhoba as the loyal Ngomane. With their skills and experience, viewers are in for a thrilling ride filled with surprises.
