Pianist and vocalist Thandi Ntuli announced that she will be performing at her last gig of the year in an intimate concert. Thando Ntuli will sing her melodic jazz tunes over some delicious African cuisine courtesy of the Leano Restaurant on Thursday evening, 9 December. The Jazz musician who has been dubbed by international Arts and Culture organisations NPR and Afro Punk as a beacon of a “new generation of South African musicians who reflect this idea of cross-cultural jazz” will be gracing the audience with her melodic tunes over delicious African cuisine.
Thandi Ntuli who hails from Soshanguve, Pretoria comes from a lineage of rich musical heritage, being the niece of guitarist, pianist and lead vocalist of 70’s pop fusion band Harari (The Beaters), Selby Ntuli. Her keen interest for jazz was ignited from the tender age of 4, which she then went on to professionally purse making her mark in the industry with the independent release of her debut jazz album, “The Offering”. Ntuli’s debut album release has received critical acclaim, numerous awards and accolades since, and was particularly nominated for Best Urban Jazz by MetroFM in 2015.
In a review of the artist’s body of work, Edward Kgosidintsi of Afro Punk penned the rarity of Thando Ntuli in the contemporary jazz space. “It’s hard to find a contemporary jazz pianist whose work is as aesthetically rich is Thandi Ntuli’s is. Her music is laden with elements of neo-soul and nu-jazz yet her mastery of the traditional bop sound is unmatched. “ writes Kgosidintsi.
Ntuli announced in a twitter post that she will be preforming at her last concert of the year and called onto fans to join her in ushering out the end of the annum. Ntuli also expressed her eagerness to engage with her fans claiming how excited she is to see their beautiful faces at the gig after a short hiatus. “I’ve missed my people and excited to have this show as my last show of the year. its great way to end my 2021″ states Ntuli.
