Thebe Magugu is excited to introduce his latest project titled ‘The Custom heirloom Ensemble’. Launched last year with the involvement of notable figures like Lupita Nyong’o and Michelle Obama, this project allows customers to turn cherished memories into wearable art.
With the Custom Heirloom Ensemble, customers can upload an image of a loved one, whether its a family member, friend or even a beloved pet, on Thebe Magugu’s website. The image will then be transformed into garments that hold sentimental value, creating a special connection between the wearer and the memory depicted.

In the 2024 edition of the project, Thebe Magugu presents a customisable pyjama-collar shirt, straight-leg trousers with an elasticated waist, and a stylish strappy tote bag. These garments are available in four colours: Kiwi Green, Vanilla White, Blue Berry Navy, and a special Strawberry Red.
The Red edition of the Heirloom project is a collaboration with (@red), an organization co-founded by Bono and Bobby Shriver to combat AIDS and related injustices. Proceeds from the Red Heirloom will support this important cause.
Thebe Magugu shared, “Heirloom is a special project for me because it allows me to immortalize not only my own memories but also those of others through fabric, creating a tangible ‘log’ of one’s life. It is particularly meaningful that this project supports (RED)’s vital work in the fight against AIDS through the realm of fashion.

As someone who has witnessed the impact of HIV/AIDS firsthand, losing family members and seeing others cope with the condition, I am deeply committed to this cause. In South Africa, where we have some of the highest rates of HIV/AIDS globally, this mission is especially significant.
By blending fashion and philanthropy, Thebe Magugu’s Heirloom project offers a way to preserve and celebrate memories while making a positive impact through charitable giving.
