Stevenson Gallery, a key player in the contemporary African art world, is excited to announce its upcoming exhibition, “When Works Meet.” This event will take place at the Cape Town location from December 7, 2024, to February 8, 2025. The exhibition aims to create conversations between different works of art.
Unlike the gallery’s previous series, called Juxtapositions, which focused on pairing two artists, “When Works Meet” will feature a diverse group of 50 artists. Their works will be displayed together in combinations, encouraging attendees to unfold unexpected links and fresh perspectives.

This approach is inspired by art critic Zoe Hopkins, who noted how artworks can spark dialogue when placed near each other. Her insights came from observing exhibitions by Ming Smith and Rotimi Fani-Kayode at the Wexner Center for the Arts.
The exhibition will showcase arange of art forms, including paintings, photographs, sculptures, and mixed media pieces. By bringing together contemporary and historical works, “When Works Meet” offers a chance to explore how artistic creation evolves over time.
