Morena Moletsane, Lindi Joubert and Tanya van Deventer watch their expression of heritage and pride come to life.
South Africans were recently given the opportunity to get creative in the NESCAFÉ RICOFFY tin design competition, and knowing that 2020 has been a tough year for all us, NESCAFÉ RICOFFY is bringing pride to life this Heritage Day.
To do this, South Africans were given the opportunity to design a “Proudly Me” NESCAFÉ RICOFFY 750g limited edition tin.
All the designs had to be inspired by pride and showcase what it means to be “Proudly Me”.
Over 312 entries were received from all over the country, and South Africans voted for their favourite designs.
The designs from Morena Moletsane, Lindi Joubert and Tanya van Deventer brought pride to life and were voted as the competition winners.
Born and raised in Johannesburg, Morena Moletsane is a South African illustrator and animator who you may have seen before at Design Indaba.
Moletsane said: “For me, pride means the small moments that I experienced when I was a child. Pride also encapsulates South Africa as a country.”
Drawing on small moments of pride experienced in his childhood, Moletsane’s design incorporates moments from his upbringing.
“It was also important for me to show the things that make me proud as a South African; the beautiful landmarks that we have in our country, as well as our natural beauty and sporting achievements.”
“Having the opportunity to showcase that heritage and different interpretations of pride can be united through a cup of NESCAFÉ RICOFFY is such a privilege,” said winner Lindi Joubert, a Graphic Design Honours student at the North-West University (NWU).
Joubert took her inspiration from portraying pride through the small, everyday victories of life, giving South Africans the chance to relate to each other through the small wins and share in what pride and heritage means to them.
Fellow NWU peer and Masters of Art in Graphic Design student Tanya van Deventer was inspired by coffee’s ability bring people together.
“We often spend time together over a cup of coffee and although South Africans are all so different in so many ways, simple, shared moments can bring us together. This is why I have included different people, shapes and colours in my design.”
Van Deventer’s design showcases that all South Africans are interconnected; different puzzle pieces that fit together and create unity.
This communicates South Africa’s diversity, which is filled with beautiful cultures and personalities and is certainly something to take pride in.
As a proudly South African brand grounded in heritage, NESCAFÉ RICOFFY is encouraging South Africans to share their special #MomentsofPride and celebrate the beautiful stories that inspire us all.
Through the #MomentsofPride campaign, NESCAFÉ RICOFFY intends to bring pride to life and capture the stories that remind us of why we are proud to be South African and part of a national community.
Even though we are not celebrating Heritage Day in a manner that we are used to, we still have stories that we can celebrate and be proud of.
Celebrate Heritage Month and local artwork by sharing your #MomentsofPride and getting yourself a limited-edition NESCAFÉ RICOFFY tin in a store near you.
