The much-awaited South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs) have made their triumphant return for the 17th annual celebration of the country’s cinematic and television brilliance. The stage is set, and the spotlight is poised to illuminate the remarkable talents that grace our screens.
Leading the charge in this year’s nominations is kykNET, with an astounding 63 nominations, closely trailed by Netflix SA, boasting an impressive 55 nods. These frontrunners promise an evening filled with anticipation, celebrating the diversity and innovation that defines South African storytelling.
Two exceptional productions, “The River” and “Legacy,” from Tshedza Pictures, have been the center of attention with a notable presence in 11 categories each. Their presence underscores the captivating narratives that have captured the hearts of audiences far and wide.
National Film and Video foundation (NFVF) acting CEO, Thobela Mayinje said: “The NFVF is encouraged by the confidence the SA film and television industry is showing to the SAFTAS. The high number of entries speaks volumes and the growth of the Sa film and television industry, with new productions making part of the nomination list as well.
