This morning, 17th June 2022, Drake surprised fans with the release of his seventh studio album Honestly, Nevermind which was accompanied by the visuals of the first music video for Falling Back — that follows the narrative of the superstar getting married to several woman. The release comes less than a year after his landmark Certified Lover Boy record.
What might come as more of a surprise to local music lovers is that South Africa’s very own DJ, Black Coffee is amongst those who executive produced Drake’s new studio album.

DJ Black Coffee, real name Nkosinathi Maphumulo has undoubtedly reached a new high in his career as he continues to make a name for himself on the global stage. The Dj snubbed an executive producer title on the superstar’s surprise album along side his very son Esona Tyolo and the usual suspects are Noah “40” Shebib, Tay Keith, Vinylz, and Cubeatz. Another South African artists credited on the album include TRESOR, frequent collaborator with Black Coffee, who added additional vocals.

Black Coffee has been credited as producer and co-writer on a few songs on Honestly, Nevermind:
- Texts Go Green – Black Coffee listed his son Esona Tyolo (who has been touring with him) as co-producer.
- Currents – Coffee has been credited as a co-writer and co-producer.
- Overdrive – He has also been credited as a co-writer and co-producer.
Long before he bagged his own Grammy, Black Coffee was part of the inner circle of Hollywood A-listers. Drake and Coffee’s relationship dates back to 2017. The Canadian rapper sampled one of Coffee’s hits Superman, featuring local songstress Bucie, for a song titled Get It Together.
Following stead fast in Black Coffee’s footsteps is his son Esona Tyolo who marked his first major production gig on the globe biggest artist. He’s proud father took to Twitter to share his some kind words in relation to his son’s latest achievement.

The 46-year-old DJ also attended the Grammy Awards in April this year at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas with his eldest son Esona. He won the award for Best Dance/Electronic Album for his album Subconsciously.
Just two weeks after winning the Grammy Award, Subconsciously reached platinum status. The 12-track album which was released in February 2021 under Universal Music Group has features from the likes of Sun-El Musician, Una Rams, Tellaman, Pharrell Williams, Msaki and David Guetta.
