Windhoek, Namibia, is about to become the center of the fashion world from November 6 to 9, 2024, as it hosted the much-anticipated MTC Windhoek Fashion Week.
This event was a fantastic chance for African designers to show off their work and connect with a broader audience.
Among the designers showcasing their collections are two representatives from South Africa. Sandile “Duke” Mngadi, who runs DUKE Clothe Your Soul, and Sicelo Dlezi, the founder of Yatsar Clothing, are both part of the Durban Fashion Fair. They have received support from the eThekwini Municipality, which is dedicated to helping local designers grow their businesses.

Duke Mngadi expressed how honoured he feels to represent Durban at the event. He sees it as an opportunity to elevate his brand and highlight the thriving fashion scene in Durban.
He hopes that his success will inspire young designers from less privileged backgrounds, showing them that they can achieve great things too.
Sicelo Dlezi also shared her excitement about participating in Windhoek Fashion Week. For her, this event is a chance to network with buyers, retailers, and media from Namibia. She is grateful to the municipality for recognizing her efforts and believes this opportunity will open many new doors for her brand.

The Windhoek Fashion Week is more than just a showcase of beautiful clothes. It is part of a bigger plan by the eThekwini Municipality to promote local fashion and make Durban a key fashion hub in Africa.
In September 2024, an agreement was signed to make Windhoek an official sister city of Durban. This partnership will lead to exciting initiatives like a designer exchange program and collaboration between models and stakeholders from both cities.
