Museum Africa is launching an exhibition called Fashion Accounts. This exhibition opens on November 15, 2024 and will run until February 28, 2025. It’s located at 121 Lilian Ngoyi Street, Newtown, Johannesburg, and everyone is welcome to visit!
Fashion Accounts is a series of installations that look at how we collect and remember fashion and clothing. The exhibition is curated by Wanda Lephoto, Erica de Greef, and Alison Moloney. With this exhibition they help us look at themes such as memory, resistance and the ways we preserve our culture through dress.

The exhibition features new work by a group called The Sartists, created by Wanda Lephoto and Mimi Duma. You will also see works by well-known designers Thebe Magus and Sindiso Khumalo. Their creations speak to the history of colonialism and the impact it had, especially on museums and the items they keep.
The Fashion Accounts exhibition challenges the traditional ways museums collect and showcase clothing. It asks us to think about the stories behind the clothes and what they mean to our identity.
