South African designers have an opportunity to showcase their talent on the international stage at Milan Fashion Week 2024. The Department of Small Business Development, in collaboration with The Fashion Firm South Africa, is calling on designers to participate in a fashion showcase in Italy in during September.
To be eligible for this opportunity, designers must be South African, have a valid passport, be registered clients of the Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA), be over 21 years old, and possess a valid tax clearance certificate.
Additionally, they need to have an Export Readiness Assessment (ERAT) signed by the SEDA brand manager, business adviser and the applicant.

Designers interested in participating are required to submit a brand profile and a ‘lookbook’ featuring their Spring/Summer 24/25 collection. This collection should include information on wholesale and retail prices, distribution channels, and the average number of items in the range. The application deadline is June 30, with successful candidates set to be notified by July 10.
Previous South African designers who have graced the Milan Fashion Week stage include The Bam Collective, who showcased their creations under the Fashion Bridges program.
Jacques Bam, the founder of The Bam Collective, described their collection as “Extraterrestrialism,” inspired by the concept of a universe created by the collective.
