Welcome Danca was born in Umlazi Township, KwaZulu-Natal in 1978.
Danca emerged into the art industry through the tutelage of the late Trevor Makhoba. He worked and studied under Makhoba for four years and may have gained national attention earlier, having been nominated as a finalist for the Brett Kebble Art awards, which collapsed in 2006.
The painting entitled, Ikhiwane leihle ligcwala izibungu, a lurid and frightening image of a female prostitute, was selected as a finalist for a prize.
Not only does Danca’s work look at the deterioration of mankind his artworks give a feeling of awed wonder; he illustrates artworks that reflect on a simpler way of life and the blooming beautiful nature that surrounds all of us.
He has exhibited alongside Sibusiso Duma, at The Art Centre and regardless of any limitation, his work has been seen in a number of respected galleries like Durban Art Gallery.
Danca’s artwork has also been included at the Fresh Paint Gallery, Durban – group exhibition.
His work is also in a number of collections: Killie Campbell Collections, University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban; Museum Services, Pietermaritzburg; KwaMuhle Museum, Durban.
