The Association of Arts Pretoria is set to showcase an exciting exhibition titled “Polarity,” featuring the works of Annemie Odendaal and Loeritha Saayman. This exhibition explores the concept of polarity through the lens of the Zodiac’s grand cycle of life. Both artists have created their artworks using different mediums and techniques, offering a diverse and captivating display.
The Zodiac cycle consists of twelve signs divided into six groups known as polarities, each reskin on opposite sides of the cycle. Interestingly, the birth signs of the two artists also fall under different polarities. While these polarities may share similar goals and values, they highlight the differences in their approaches to life and, in this case, their approach to the process of art-making.

Loeritha Saayman, who obtained her degree in Visual Arts at UNISA, brings a unique perspective to her mixed media work. Her paintings combine traditional techniques with spent paint, collage, and other recycled materials. This experimental approach expands her artistic horizons, allowing her to get into new realms of creativity. Saayman’s work embodies the concept of opposites and unity, reflecting the polarity-quality she explores.
Annemie Odendaal, on the other hand, draws inspiration from the human spirit in her artwork. Her pieces consist of hand-coloured linocuts, bronze, and mixed media. Odendaal’s artistic process is multimodal and intermedial, employing her origami rabbit, Lapine the flaneuse, as a muse. Her work beautifully captures the essence of her subjects, inviting viewers to delve into the depths of the human experience.
