Last week, Cape Town’s iconic Mount Nelson hotel played host to the second iteration of CONFECTIONS X COLLECTIONS (CxC), a unique event that seamlessly blends fashion and confectionery. Curated by Twyg, South Africa’s leading sustainability publication and NPO, CxC has become a highly anticipated affair that marks the beginning of summer and showcases the vibrant world of South African design.
Among the talented designers featured, Wanda Lephoto’s “Our People: Confections and Collections” stood out as a celebration of creativity and a promise for the future of South African design.

The traditional runway format has been evolving for some time, and the pandemic has accelerated this transformation. With accessibility to fashion shows increasing through digital platforms, the limitations of the conventional runway experience have become apparent.

What sets CxC apart is the opportunity for guests to experience fashion up close and personal. The salon style concept allows attendees to sit in the beautiful conservatory, mere inches away from the models and their meticulously crafted garments. This proximity provides a rare chance to appreciate the workmanship and attention to detail that goes into each piece.
Moreover, guests have the added delight of savoring bespoke treats created by Mount Nelson’s pastry chef, Vicky Gurovich, in collaboration with each designer. This unique combination of fashion and confectionery creates a multisensory experience that is both visually and gastronomically delightful.
