One ongoing series by Lehobye, titled ‘Vanishing Points,’ explores the inner city inhabitants of Johannesburg and the city itself as a subject. He portrays the idea of a physical space passed down through generations of migrants, much like the Hillbrow Tower being handed over like a baton. This reflects the diversity that makes Johannesburg such a unique place, with its ever-changing architectural landscape and migrant population.
Thabang Lehobye’s artwork captures the essence of Johannesburg, showcasing the city’s vibrant energy and its constant evolution. Through his experimentation with techniques using acrylics and charcoal, he brings to life the dreams and ambitions that draw people to Johannesburg. His talent and creativity have earned him recognition, including winning the Thami Mnyele Art Award competition in 2021.
Lehobye’s solo show, Rite of Passage, promises to be a beautiful exhibition that offers a glimpse into the captivating world of Johannesburg. With his skill and passion, he is sure to leave a lasting impression on the art world.
