Thuso Mbedu has joined the star-studded cast of the upcoming film “Mufasa: The Lion King.” The prequel, directed by Barry Jenkins and featuring music by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Lebo M, is set to hit theaters on December 20, 2024.
In the film, Mbedu will be portraying a character named Kiara, the daughter of Simba and Nala. The story follows Rafiki as he recounts the legend of Mufasa to young Kiara, with Timon and Pumbaa adding their comedic touch.

The film is about Mufasa’s origins as an orphaned cub who crosses paths with Taka, a lion with royal lineage, sparking a journey of self-discovery and destiny.
Mbedu’s addition to the cast brings her alongside renowned actors such as Beyoncé, who reprises her role as Nala, and Blue Ivy Carter, who plays Nala’s daughter, Kiara.
Director Barry Jenkins expressed his delight in having the mother-daughter duo share the screen, highlighting the special dynamic they bring to the film.
