Constitution Hill, one of the most significant historical sites in South Africa, is set to host an exhibition titled “Where You Are” in early 2024. This group exhibition aims to shed light into the notions of freedom, self-expression, and identity through the medium of printmaking.
Featuring the works of ten emerging artists, all born between 1994 and 2001, “Where You Are” offers a perspective on the transformation of Constitution Hill during the same period. This time frame coincided with the site’s reconstruction, extension restoration, and ultimately, its transformation into a symbol of hope, justice and reconciliation for past and present human rights offences.
Constitution Hill provides a “safe place” offering respite from its run-down and overworked surroundings. The exhibition reflects on the impact of history in shaping South African society, attitudes, and identities within a democratic and free contemporary context.
