Balekane Legoabe is an artist from Johannesburg. She has a strong background in graphic design and illustration, having earned two Bachelor of Arts degrees from the Open Window Institute. One degree focuses on Visual Communication with a specialization in Illustration, while the other is in Film Arts with a specialization in Motion Design.
Balekane’s art is diverse and includes mixed media, digital collages, animations, and expressive ink drawings. She looks at the deep connections between people and nature in her work. Using elements like plants, animals, and human figures. Her pieces often reflect themes of change, feelings, and the shared experiences of humans and the natural world.

In her creative process, Balekane combines both digital and traditional techniques. This blend results in detailed compositions that tell stories while also presenting abstract ideas. Her use of different colours and shapes makes her artwork stand out, creating a broader human experiences.
Balekane has showcased her work in many group exhibitions and art fairs throughout South Africa. Notably, she participated in the Turbine Art Fair and was a finalist in the StateoftheART Gallery Award Exhibition, where she won a prize in 2019. Her art is also featured in public collections, including the William Humphreys Gallery in Kimberley, South Africa, and the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe in Hamburg, Germany.

Beyond creating art, Balekane is passionate about teaching. She offers extramural art lessons and has over four years of experience in arts management and curation. Currently, she works as the Curator and Marketing Liaison for Latitudes Online, where she helps promote and manage art projects.
