South African designer Thebe Magugu has recently opened his first retail store in Johannesburg called Magugu House. The store is not just a regular retail space but also a place for exhibitions and events. Located in the upscale suburb of Dunkeld, the store is set in a historic home on Bompas Road.
The store features a showroom, fitting room, reception area, and small art galleries showcasing Magugu’s latest collections. The ground floor is painted in shades of pistachio and terracotta, creating a welcoming atmosphere.
Thebe Magugu, who won the LVMH Prize for Young Designers in 2019, is known for using his clothing to highlight aspects of South African culture.

The store also houses the brand’s offices and an atelier for custom productions. The furniture in the store is custom-designed by South African company Weylandts, giving it a unique touch. Magugu aims to create a space that offers more than just shopping, but also memorable experiences for visitors.
Magugu plans to use the store as a platform to support emerging artists and create a space for dialogue and creativity. He envisions the store as a hub for not just fashion, but also art, music, and wellness activities.
