Production for Queen Modjadji series is in full swing, with a blend of experienced actors and fresh talent cast to illuminate the remarkable story of the Rain Queen. The actors were chosen based on their ability to master the Khelovedu language and accurately portray the historical figures integral to Queen Modjadji’s legacy.
When Mzansi Magic announced the production of the Queen Modjadji story in February, South Africans showed great interest, sparking widespread curiosity and discussions. This lesser-known story has captured the public’s imagination, with eager anticipation for the portrayal of its characters.

Queen Modjadji established a lineage of rainmaking queens who held the power to call forth rain and control the clouds, ensuring the prosperity and well-being of their people. His Majesty granted the production creative freedom while maintaining close consultation to honour his family’s legacy throughout the process.
Ngelekanyo Ramulodi (Young Queen Modjadji) – Ngele first appeared on Mzansi Magic’s S’phiwo, and you might also know her from Fatal Seduction and Noughts & Crosses. In this series, she plays 14-year-old Maselegwani, the young Modjadji.
Masutang Rasekele (Dzugudini) – Masutang is a fresh face in the acting world and takes on the role of Dzugudini, the daughter of the Rain King and mother of Queen Modjadji. Dzugudini plays a crucial role in Lovedu history by saving the kingdom from a severe drought.
Helen Lebepe (Raisibe) – Helen, who has appeared in several roles including one in Saints & Sinners on Mzansi Magic (now on Showmax), will play Raisibe. Raisibe helps Modjadji understand the real world of her people and becomes her trusted advisor.

Thabo Bopape (Mambo Mugodo) – Thabo, a film director and producer known for his appearances in TV series, films, commercials, and stage shows, will play Mambo Mugodo. He is the king of the Kharanga Kingdom, determined to become the greatest rainmaker and fix the mistakes of the past to end a severe drought.
Shudu Musida (Muthanoni Mulalo) – Former Miss South Africa Shudu Musida will make her acting debut as Muthanoni Mulalo, one of the king/queen’s wives from the VhaVenda royal family.
Ndavi Nokeri (Muthanoni Khensani)– Ndavi, also a former Miss South Africa crowned in 2022, represented SA in the Miss Universe Pageant. She will play Muthanoni Khensani, another wife of the king/queen from the VaTsonga royal family.
Each actor brings their own talent and charisma to their respective roles, promising to deliver a respectful and portrayal of the characters in the Queen Modjadji series.
