South African filmmaker Raheem Razak emerged as one of the winners at the 2024 Sony Future Filmmaker Awards held in Los Angeles. Razor’s film “Anguish” which revolves around a son caring for his zombie mother in a zombie-infested world, captured the attention of the judges and secured him this achievement.
Expressing his gratitude for the recognition, Razak, currently a student at the South African film school AFDA, emphasized the honour of representing his country on an international platform. The awards, established by Creo, aim to spotlight emerging talents in filmmaking and offer them a platform to showcase their storytelling abilities.

The accolade, chosen by a panel of esteemed judges led by chair Justin Chadwick, not only recognizes Razak’s talent but also elevates his standing among other promising filmmakers across the globe. As part of the prize package, Razak and the other winners engaged in a week-long industry immersion program, culminating in the grand awards event. This experience provided them with valuable insights from industry experts, workshops on various aspects of filmmaking, and exclusive access to behind-the-scenes knowledge.
