Retsidisitswe Ngqekeza, born in 2003 in the rural town of Mohale’s Hoek in Lesotho, is a young artist whose passion for visual arts has propelled him on a remarkable journey. Inspired by his father, a clay maker, Ngqekeza began exploring his artistic talents through clay, drawing and painting. It was only later, in the Free State he discovered his true calling as an artist.

Ngqekeza’s journey took an unexpected turn when he encountered a group of artists exhibiting their work in Freedom Square. Carrying his art file, he caught the attention of Mr Kganyago, an established artist, who recognized Ngqekeza’s skill and invited him to join the local art community. This encounter marked a turning point in Ngqekeza’s life, as he embraced hist identity as an artist and immersed in the art scene of Freedom Square.

In 2021, Ngqekeza’s passion and talent led him to Joburg’s August House, where he had the opportunity to assist and learn from renowned artist Mr Teboho Makoatsa. Under Makoatsa’s guidance, Ngqekeza honed his skills and expanded his artistic horizons. The mentorship provided him the necessary tools and knowledge to establish his own studio in Agust House, a building known for housing talented artists.
Ngqekeza’s aspirations extend beyond his own artistic pursuits. He dreams of having his own solo exhibition, a platform to showcase his unique artistic vision and inspire others. Through his journey, Ngqekeza hopes to motivate and encourage young artists to follow their dreams, just as he did. His determination and success serve as a reminder that with talent, passion, and perseverance, anything is possible.
