Shudufhadzo ‘Shudu’ Musida, Miss South Africa 2020, is making waves with the simultaneous launch of her Imbe swimwear line and her latest children’s book, ‘I am Shudu, Finding My Voice, Knowing My Power.’
In a remarkable collaboration with her business partners, Colleen Murray and Thithi Nteta, Shudu introduces Imbe, a vibrant swimwear collection exclusively available at flagship Woolworths stores. The brand combines affordability with quality, redefining beachside glamour with a focus on empowering women to feel confident, comfortable, embrace their shapes and sizes, and remain stylish in swimwear. The name ‘Imbe’ is a tribute to Shudu’s heritage, derived from ‘Imbelani,’ meaning to sing or praise in TshiVenda.

Imbe is available at five flagship Woolworths stores—Sandton, V&A, Canal Walk, Menlyn, and Gateway—Imbe‘s pieces draw inspiration from South Africa’s rich culture and natural beauty, each meticulously designed with an eye for detail.
Shudu expresses her enthusiasm for this venture: “I’ve always believed that fashion is a powerful form of self-expression. With this swimwear line, I aim to give people the confidence to embrace their unique beauty and individuality. Each piece is a reflection of my love for South Africa and my desire to make everyone feel incredible in swimwear.”
In addition to her swimwear line, Shudu has written her second children’s book, ‘I am Shudu, Finding My Voice, Knowing My Power.’ Following the success of her first book, ‘Shudu Finds her Magic,’ published in six languages and targeted at 4 to 8-year-olds, this new book is aimed at 6 to 10-year-olds. It tells the story of Shudu’s experiences growing up in Limpopo, navigating the challenges of moving cities and dealing with bullying. The book addresses the issue of bullying compassionately and practically, inspiring children to embrace bravery, self-worth, and the importance of friendships.

Published by Jacana Media, the book is beautifully illustrated by Chantelle and Burgen Thorne, facilitating children’s transition from picture books to chapter books.
“I am so thrilled to share my story in the form of this book with the world, especially young kids who I hope will draw inspiration from my story. With this book, I want readers to understand the power of their voice and use it as a tool to shape the world around them,” she says.
As a mental health advocate, Shudu aims to spark conversations that she wished she had when she was young, and she hopes her book will help children worldwide who are being bullied and struggling with their mental health to find their power and speak out.
‘I am Shudu, Finding My Voice, Knowing My Power’ will be available at all good bookstores from the 8th of November 2023.
