Strauss & Co is hosting a series of art sales in Johannesburg from November 11 to November 12. This event will put on display, works by some of the most celebrated artists, including Igshaan Adams, William Kentridge, Zanele Muholi and Irma Stern.
The November Sales will consist of four parts over two days. There will be two online only sales that wrapped up on November 11, and two live virtual sales that take place on November 12, starting from 5pm and 7pm.
Among the highlights of the sales is Irma Stern’s painting titled “Watussi Chief’s Wife in Yellow”, created in 1946. This portrait is one of a small number of oils she painted during her travels to Belgian Congo. It is expected to sell for R4 and 5 million.

Another piece up for auction is a self portrait by William Kentridge from 1985. This artwork, has a price estimate of R650,000 to R850,000 which was gifted to his long time art dealer Linda Given, who founded the Goodman Gallery.

Lot 109 Rosamund Everard-Steenkamp – Rondeval
The first live virtual sale will kick off with a theme called “Rough and Smooth: A Focus on Surface and Texture”. This sale by Igshaan Adams titled “Landskap”, estimated to go for R500,000 to R700,000. The sale also includes a notable painting by Georgina Gratrix called “80s Mom”.
In addition to paintings, there are sculptures available, including a mural by Alexis Preller and a piece by Edoardo Villa. One of the interesting items is a pair of whimsical ceramics by artist Hylton Nel, recently known for his work with Dior.
The sales will include portraits by George Pemba that reflect his growth as an artist, along with photographs by Zanele Muholi, who is currently exhibiting at Tate Modern in London. Muholi’s works include two self-portraits from their acclaimed series *Somnyama Ngonyama*, along with earlier photography from 2007.

Strauss & Co will also present a special sale showcasing works from the Everard Group, highlighting female artists from various generations. This includes self-taught painter Rosamund Everard-Steenkamp’s “Rondeval” and her sister Ruth Everard-Haden’s “Riverlands Stoep”.
