The exciting world of “The Lion King” is back with a new movie called “Mufasa: The Lion King,” which is set to hit theatres on December 20, 2024. The movie will be telling the story of Mufasa’s journey from an orphaned cub to the king of the Pride Lands. It is a tale of adventure, friendship and the struggles that shape who we are.
The story begins in present day, where Rafiki, the wise mandrill, shares the legend of Mufasa with Kiara, the young daughter of Simba and Nala. Mufasa, voiced by Aaron Pierre, started his life lonely and lost in the Pride Lands of Tanzania. He was not born into royalty; instead he encountered Taka, a young lion who would one day become Scar. Their friendship blossoms as they explore the lands together, bouncing on hippos and enjoying their youth. But trouble looms ahead in the form of Kiros, a white lion with dark ambitions, causing a rift in their brotherhood.
Director Barry Jenkins says this film reveals the untold journey of Mufasa and how he found his place in the circle of life. Audiences will discover why Scar became a villain and how jealousy grew from their friendship.
The voice cast is filled with talent that fans will recognize. Along with Pierre as Mufasa and Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Taka, the movie features John Kani as Rafiki and Preston Nyman as Zazu, the hornbill. Donald Glover returns as Simba, and Beyoncé as Nala, along with Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner as Timon and Pumbaa, respectively. Blue Ivy Carter even plays Kiara, making this story a family affair.
